American boy married to a Turkish girl

My name is Nick, and I recently (last saturday, July 18,2009) got married to the most beautiful Turkish woman in the world, my wife, Esen.

We were waiting for a fiance visa, but wanted to spend some time together, and so my wife came to an English language course on a F-1 student visa, so we could spend the summer together. I decided I didn't want to let her go and asked for her hand in marriage.

We finally heard word from the fiance visa paperwork, but after we were already married. We filed fiance visa Dec. 19th 2008, and finally heard word just last Monday, saying they needed more proof (pictures), but we had already married....strange timing.

So now I'm going to blog about the process, we were married last Saturday, and we must file Change of status (I-485) and petition for alien fiance (I-130)......

If you are filing I-485, you should file Application for Employment Authorization (I-765) and Application for Travel Document (I-131) because the fee for the I-485 is $1,010 but this covers the I-131 and the I-765 if filed jointley. But if you file, I-485, recieve change of status, and then file the others later, you will still pay $1,010 and then you will have to file and pay $300+ for each.

Also, you need to have immunization records, which my wife can't get, so she has to have all of the vaccinations in order to have the medical examination administered....the cost of all of these (every one a person needs) at the department of health in my city is nearly $400.

God I feel sorry for my girl, we are going to try and do them all at one time so we can get the paperwork filed....I'll start making smaller posts, just with updates, to make this easier to read, and I'll give tips I pick up along the way, and so maybe someone else can be helped from this.

God bless.
